"I remember the tipple at Diablock Coal Company that stretched across what used to be the main road to Hazard from the southern end of Perry County, and the line of camp houses called "Widow's Row", some of which are still being used as residences today. Across the railroad tracks from Widow's Row was the commissary. I loved going in there, but by the time I was old enough to go there on my own, they no longer accepted scrip; you had to have cash."
